Nineteen Bundesliga players fill oversized Austrian national team roster

Austria national football team head-coach coach Franco Foda nominated a massive roster of 43 footballers for the coming international break yesterday.

One of the largest international footballing squads ever assembled gets its oversized girth from German federal restrictions. At present, 14-day-quarantines are required for travelers re-entering the Bundesrepublik from so-called RKI-identified "variant areas".

A full 19 Bundesliga professionals have been selected to play for Austria. Whether or not their individual clubs will chance allowing them to report for international duty remains up in the air.

On Monday, we reported on the refusal of three Bundesliga clubs to release Marcel Sabitzer, David Alaba, and Martin Hinteregger for an Austrian World Cup Qualifying match next week in Scotland. As we noted in that piece, this exclusion did not necessarily preclude the professionals from traveling to Vienna to play in Austria's other two WMQ fixtures during the international break.

While the Austrian FA waits to see if Leipzig, Bayern, and Frankfurt will allow the high-profile trio to head eastward after the Scotland fixture, 16 (!!) other Bundesliga players have been called-up to represent the ÖFB. Individual clubs must now make case-by-case decisions on this list of 19 footballers:
