Bayern München are the only Bundesliga club that didn't spend a single cent on summer transfers.

The Bavarian club's only new signing is Leon Goretzka who made the move to Allianz Arena from Schalke 04 on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry and Renato Sanches have returned to the club after loan spells at Hoffenheim and Swansea respectively.

Many of Europe's other top clubs - such as Paris Saint-Germain - have spent large sums on the transfer market, but Bayern München's Javi Martinez says the German champions didn't need to do that. In his opinion, no player would really be able to improve Bayern.

"Every club has its philosophy. The one at Bayern is very different to the one at Paris Saint-Germain, but that doesn't mean that one is better than the other. If you compare the squad with other big clubs, Bayern don't need to envy any club," Martinez told Kicker and added:

"Who are we going to sign? Who are really better than what we already have? Nobody. Probably except Messi who in my opinion is the best player of all time. But signing him is obviously impossible."

During the summer, Bayern also announced the €10 million signing of 17-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps starlet Alphonso Davies who will complete his move to Germany in January.
