After missing the first two games of the season due to a foot injury, Bayer Leverkusen's Sven Bender says he expects to be back for next weekend's match against Bayern München.

"Under alle circumstances, I feel quite well," the experienced centre-back told Bild.

Last Tuesday, Bender went to München to have his foot examined.

"The result was okay. I still feel a bit of pain, but I can do everything in training," Bender said.

Leverkusen are still to take a point this season after losing the first two Bundesliga games to Borussia Mönchengladbach (0-2) and VfL Wolfsburg (1-3), and Bender admits 'Die Werkself' expected a better start.

"Of course, it's not looking good. Two defeats were not what we had imagined. That's why we have to tighten up and improve," he told Bild.

The 29-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
