Another Khedira for Berlin: Union set to snatch up Rani from Augsburg

German footballing Kicker reports that Augsburg midfielder Rani Khedira is on the verge of joining 1. FC Union Berlin.
Eisern Union's proactive push to retool their roster in time for next season continues. Germany's Kicker reports that a deal to secure the services of 27-year-old defensive midfielder Rani Khedira is near. The nine-year Bundesliga veteran's departure from Bavaria was never in much doubt as he stood on an expiring contract.

Khedira will hope for a new start in the country's capital. The younger brother of World Champion Sami may hold out hopes of facing his older sibling, who recently returned to the Bundesrepublik to play for city rivals Hertha BSC. Rani has made 23 appearances for the Fuggerstädter this season, but only served the full 90 minutes on seven occasions.

Following some disappointing deployments earlier in the campaign, Khedira seems to have worked his way back in Heiko Herrlich's good graces; serving as a pivotal actor in the team's recent improved form stretch. A chance for the FCA to rekindle contract extension talks with the player who has made 128 appearances for them over the course of four seasons nevertheless would have come too late.
