Neither Amine Harit or Hamza Mendyl were in Morocco's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi on Saturday night. The Schalke duo were punished for showing up too late for training.

"If we are in a group, it is necessary that you respect times and other rules," Morocco coach Herve Renard said after the 3-0 win on Saturday.

Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel claims that the two players misunderstood at which time they had to depart for training.

"Harit and Mendyl, like other players, misunderstood the departure time for training and came too late. Therecore, they weren't considered for the game. Nothing dramatic, but punctuality and discipline are important things," Heidel told Bild.

In August, Harit was handed a four-month suspended sentence for his involvement in a fatal car crash in Morocco which led to the death of a pedestrian. Harit was behind the wheel.
