Last season, Mario Götze was a regular starter at Borussia Dortmund with Peter Stöger at the helm. However, under new coach Lucien Favre, the 26-year-old is still to play in the Bundesliga after the first two rounds.

Now, Götze has received support from Stöger who believes there is increased focus on the offensive midfielder because he scored the winning goal for Germany in the World Cup final in 2014 - and that's hard for him to cope with.

"Mario is a great footballer. There isn't two opinions about that," Stöger told Bild and added:

"It's hard to say if he really has a problem. He felt he had a different status because he wrote a unique story for German football. That puts him in focus, and that doesn't make it easier for him."

At a press conference yesterday, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre indicated that Götze will have to settle for the bench again when the BVB clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.

"We have to tell the truth. Mario can play in the centre, he can play in the 4-3-3 system, but there are a lot of players in midfield," Favre said.
