Leon Goretzka is expected to miss Germany's European Championship opener against France on 15 June.
The Bayern München midfielder is yet to fully recover from the muscle injury he suffered in a game against Gladbach last month.
"Leon Goretzka didn't take part in team training," said Germany coach Joachim Löw at a press conference on Sunday.
"He will likely need a few more days and will probably not be available for the first game.
"He will need to find his way into the tournament as it progresses," added Löw.
Before facing France, Löw's troops take on Latvia in a warm-up friendly on Monday.
