Grammozis rues missed chances after Schalke's opening loss to HSV

Schalke 04 coach Dimitrios Grammozis felt his side created enough chances to earn at least a point against Hamburger SV.

Schalke 04 started their 2. Bundesliga campaign in disappointing fashion as they fell to a 1-3 defeat at home to Hamburger SV in their opener on Friday.

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Schalke coach Dimitrios Grammozis bemoaned his team's lack of efficiency in front of goal.

"It's really disappointing to start with a defeat. We were right in the game against a good team in the first half. We deservedly had the lead and could even have gone 2-0 up through Marius Bülter. Michael Langer’s penalty save gave us an additional boost too just before that," Grammozis told reporters.

"After conceding just after the break, Thomas Ouwejan had a good chance to make it 2-1. The difference tonight was that they scored at the right times, and we didn’t. The chances we had should have been enough for at least a point. I would like to thank the fans for their superb support across the 90 minutes this evening. We will now analyse the match and then start preparing for Kiel."
