After a strong start to the season, Bayern München have only managed to get one point out of the last two Bundesliga games against Augsburg and Hertha BSC.

According to ex-Germany international Stefan Effenberg, one of the explanations for the disappointing results lately is that Bayern coach Niko Kovac has been rotating too much at this period of the season.

"I don't think you should rotate so much this early in the season. For example, it was not a good move by Niko Kovac to put Leon Goretzka at left-back against Augsburg. He belongs in the centre of the field or at least in an offensive position," Effenberg wrote in his column for Sport1 and went on:

"Even if you have as much quality on the bench as Bayern, I'm not a big fan of rotation. It can be okay, but only at the right times. There are phases through a season - and Bayern are in one of these phases right now - when you have to stop rotating and let your best team play."

"The rotation can be introduced around Christmas and when players return from international matches and have traveled a lot. Then I understand."

After the 2-0 defeat to Hertha BSC on Friday, Bayern München are sitting second in the Bundesliga table - one point behind Borussia Dortmund.
