VfB Stuttgart have appointed Christian Gentner as their new sporting director.
The former Stuttgart player has worked as the club's head of first-team football since January 2023.
He now takes over the position of sporting director, which has been vacant since Fabian Wohlgemuth was promoted to board member for sport in the summer.
"When I took over as CEO, I was already convinced that we needed to broaden our sporting organisation to allow for different perspectives. And it was and is important to me that we involve former VfB players in responsible positions and functions," said Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle.
“Christian Gentner has done a very good job as head of first-team football, so his promotion to sporting director is the logical step. Christian has everything it takes to fulfil this responsible role.”
Gentner himself said:
"I would like to thank the board, led by Alex Wehrle and Fabian Wohlgemuth, for the trust they have placed in me with my appointment as sporting director.
“Over the past two years, I have been able to accompany VfB on their journey as head of first-team football and have found the cooperation with the club's management, the coaching and support team and the squad to be very trusting and success-oriented right from the start. Everyone knows that VfB is not just any club for me. That makes my motivation to be successful with VfB all the greater.”
