Eintracht Frankfurt secured their first clean sheet in two months at the weekend, defeating Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0 at Deutsche Bank Park.

Goalkeeper Kauã Santos, who has faced plenty of criticism this season, made a number of remarkable saves throughout the match and earned high praise from new Eintracht coach Albert Riera after the game.

“Kauã Santos has fantastic qualities. He is very brave, two metres tall, comes off his line, and is quick – he has it all. We all make mistakes sometimes, but he has the qualities of a top goalkeeper,” Riera told Kicker.

The Spaniard added that he wants the 22-year-old to adopt a more assertive style.

"I want him to come out more because he has the physique for it. He has to dominate the entire penalty area. If he makes a mistake while coming out sometimes, the responsibility is mine because I demand this from him. I want him to prevent situations where the striker could touch the ball."

Board member for sport Markus Krösche was also impressed by Santos' performance, which he believes could be an important confidence booster.

“In recent weeks, he’s conceded a lot of goals, but in many cases he couldn’t do much. That is, of course, not easy for a goalkeeper or for his confidence. It is important for his conviction – and also for the team’s confidence – that he had such a good game,” Krösche said.
