Wolfsburg extend with Man City target, loan remains a possibility

VfL Wolfsburg confirmed a contract extension for 19-year-old striker Dzenan Pejcinovic, who had been linked with a big money move to Man City. Germany's Kicker magazine nevertheless reports that the teenage talent is still headed for a loan out. 

 

Since joining VfL Wolfsburg from Augsburg in the summer of 2022, 19-year-old striker Dzenan Pejcinovic has made just five Bundesliga appearances. The youngster's inherent talent - he's notched 37 tallies at Germany U20 level and below - nevertheless rendered him something of a hot commodity in the summer transfer market. Pejcinovic was linked with a move to Man City. The "Citizens" were apparently willing to pay €5 million for him. 

On Thursday afternoon, Wolfsburg confirmed a contract extension for the youngster. Germany's Kicker Magazine still reports that Germany's green company team are preparing to loan him out for the coming season. Pejcinovic scored 31 goals in 21 competitive appearances for the Wolfsburg U19s last season, yet prospects for breaking into the first team remain slim. The German-Montenegrin requires more practice at a higher level. 

"Dzenan has developed very well since his arrival in Wolfsburg," VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz noted in a club statement, "Dzenan has attracted the interest of top international clubs for good reason, so we are all the more pleased that we will now continue on this path together in the long term. We are convinced that Dzenan is nowhere near the end of his development."
