VfB Stuttgart have confirmed that Dan-Axel Zagadou underwent knee surgery on Wednesday after suffering a collateral ligament injury in training in September.

Zagadou will be sidelined for several months following the successful operation.

The injury is another setback for the French centre-back, who was close to full fitness after recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture.

“'Daxo' was on his way back to full fitness, so this setback is all the more bitter for him and of course for us,” said VfB Stuttgart managing director for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth.

“At the same time, we firmly believe that ‘Daxo’ will overcome this challenge with his great fighting spirit. We will give him all the support he needs.”
