Cucurella on continued booing from German fans: "A lot of wasted tickets."

In an interview with online sports journal "the Athletic", Spanish fullback Marc Cucurella has commented on the fact that some German fans continued to boo him in Spain's Euro semi-final fixture in Munich on Tuesday.

German football supporters regrettably weren't entirely finished with Spanish fullback Marc Cucurella following the controversial handball incident in their country's quarterfinal elimination. The 25-year-old was booed and whistled every time he touched the ball in Spain's quarterfinal win over France in Munich on Tuesday night. The jeers began as soon as the starter's name was broadcast over Allianz Arena P.A. prior to kickoff.

"At the beginning I was surprised," Cucurella noted in a recently published interview with online sports journal 'the Athletic', "I realized it for the first time when my name was read out before the game and a lot of people whistled. I thought about it a bit and then realized it was because of the handball situation."

"I didn't think much about it, but at the same time I was a bit sad that people came to the game just to boo a single player," he continued, "Some people wasted their tickets. They could have gone to fans who would have really enjoyed the game."

No stranger to being whistled down, Cucurella also commented on what it felt like to return to his former stomping ground of Brighton & Hove Albion after completing a record transfer to Chelsea in the summer of 2022. His first night at the AMEX did not go well. The Seagull supporters notably rattled him into a poor performance.

"That was another night where the whistles were very loud when I touched the ball," the nine-times-capped international noted, "I wouldn't say it was unbearable, but it is unpleasant. I'm more used to it now."
