Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens was called up for England's Under-21s squad to face France and Portugal.

However, he did not play in either game after the FA announced that he would remain with his club for "further assessment".

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the reason for this is that Gittens has undergone surgery on his left hand, with which he has been struggling for some time.

However, Gittens is expected to be available for Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga clash with Mainz on Sunday.

The 20-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 40 appearances for the Black and Yellows this season.
