Fortuna Düsseldorf boss reveals key detail about Tzolis' release clause

Fortuna Düsseldorf sporting director Klaus Allofs has confirmed that Christos Tzolis' release clause would have been higher had the club been promoted to the Bundesliga.

After winning the first leg of their Bundesliga play-off against Bochum 3-0 last week, Fortuna Düsseldorf looked set to seal promotion to the Bundesliga yesterday, but Bochum fought back and ultimately won on penalties.

After the game, Fortuna director of sport Klaus Allofs struggled to find any positives, but did identify one: the club's option to buy Christos Tzolis from Norwich City is lower than it would have been had they been promoted.

"The only thing that's perhaps positive today is that the clause is significantly lower than it would have been in the event of promotion," Allofs told Sky Germany.

Nevertheless, Tzolis is unlikely to remain at Fortuna after their failure to secure promotion, Sky Germany reports.

The 22-year-old winger, who found the net 22 times in 30 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, wants to continue playing in Germany, but in the top flight, the report claims.

Had Fortuna won the tie against Bochum, his release clause would reportedly have risen to €5 million euros.
