For the first time since March, Alphonso Davies was in action on Tuesday night, coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of Bayern Munich’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Sporting CP.

The 25-year-old has been working hard on his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear, and teammate Serge Gnabry was delighted to finally see him back on the pitch.

“He has been through a long period of suffering,” Gnabry told DAZN.

“Over the years, you’ve seen how important he is for us, which is why we’re incredibly happy that he’s back and giving it his all again.”

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany also shared his joy at the special moment.

"We’re glad Phonzy is back; it took nine months. Such a moment is good for us," he said.
