Heidenheim vs Freiburg preview: Hosts look to bounce back
FC Heidenheim
Saturday's hosts are looking to restart their run of form that saw Heidenheim sit top of the Bundesliga heading into the international break.
Last week's 4-2 loss away at Borussia Dortmund now sees Die Schanzer sitting fourth with six points. However, Frank Schmidt will see Saturday's fixture as a great opportunity to get back to winning ways against a Freiburg side that is somewhat of an unknown entity in terms of away form, with their one and only away trip being a 2-0 loss in München.
Schmidt's team have won their last three competitive home matches by a cumulative score of 11-3 and are also unbeaten in their last four games at Voith-Arena.
Team News
The hosts will be without Thomas Leon Keller, Julian Niehues and Denisn Tholmanna in midfield, whilst goalkeeper Frank Feller is also unavailable, Kevin Müller is expected to continue in between the sticks for Heidenheim.
SC Freiburg
Visitors, Freiburg enter this weekend off the back of a second home win of the season this campaign, after coming from behind to beat VFL Bochum, much like Julian Schuster's side did on matchday one against VfB Stuttgart.
Freiburg's one away trip this campaign has been a Bavarian trip to München, with Schuster's team leaving with zero points after losing 2-0 to the record champions. Freiburg now travel up north with their sights set on their first away victory of the campaign.
2023 summer signing Junior Adamu managed to finally break his duck for the club last time out against Bochum, with the lively forward netting his first and second goals for the club after 15 appearances last campaign without managing to register either.
The forward has been a lively presence alongside Ritsu Doan, Vincenzo Grifo and Merlin Röhl, who left the field early against Bochum.
Team News
Merlin Röhl will be absent after his injury sustained against Bochum. The youngster extended his contract with the club this week.
Manuel Gulde and Michael Gregoritsch will also be missing, alongside Maximilian Phillip and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh.
