Kompany opens up on playing philosophy at first Bayern press conference

At his first press conference as Bayern Munich coach, Vincent Kompany talked about the kind of football he wants to play.

After being officially confirmed as Bayern Munich's new head coach on Wednesday, Vincent Kompany held his first press conference in his new role on Thursday.

The 38-year-old, who joined from Burnley to replace Thomas Tuchel, spoke on a number of topics, including the type of football he wants to play at Bayern.

“I grew up on the streets of Brussels, in the Anderlecht academy,” Kompany, who has had spells at Anderlecht and Burnley as coach, said.

“You have to be a team, I want my players to have courage, I want us to be aggressive. I want us to play like that, that's also my character. We want to keep that up for entire games."

“I coached one of the youngest teams in Belgium and one of the smallest teams in England. What I bring to the table are things that will help the players to improve. I have a clear vision and will also implement it here in Germany,” Kompany added.

Sitting next to Kompany, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said he believes the 38-year-old coach is a great fit for the way the Bavarians want to play.

“He has a great personality and his style of play suits FC Bayern perfectly: we want to be dominant, we want to have the ball. He also stands for that,” Eberl said.

"As FC Bayern, we want to be dominant and aggressive. The trend in modern football is that you have to have many facets to your game. What do you need to be successful? We want a coach who is prepared to bring new things to the pitch. We've found the right coach for FC Bayern."
