Kroos: "Of course I wanted to say goodbye with the title today"

Toni Kroos wrapped up his Real Madrid spell and his club career in style by winning the Champions League. Naturally, he was delighted in a post-match interview.

Germany midfielder Toni Kroos ended his 10-year spell at Real Madrid in fine fashion, helping the La Liga giants to a 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund in his final game at club level.

Reflecting on his retirement and the match, Kroos was naturally delighted with the way things turned out.

"I had my personal farewell at our stadium last week, but of course I wanted to say goodbye with the title today. Luckily it worked out," he said after the match.

“We weren't very good in the first half. It took us a long time to become the better team today. I've tried to concentrate on the final this week. There's no point in being nostalgic. But when you look at it, it's something you're going to miss.”

Kroos, 34, now has just the European Championship to play in with Germany before he hangs up his boots for good.
