RB Leipzig are stepping up talks with Chelsea over a move for Christopher Nkunku, transfer correspondent David Ornstein reports.

The discussions are for a permanent deal, with Nkunku open to the possibility of rejoining his former club and keen on a permanent transfer.

Sky Germany's Patrick Berger notes Borussia Dortmund were also offered Nkunku, but he is not an option with his high fee and salary.

So too, Bayern Munich have been in negotiations with Chelsea over a move for the versatile French attacker this summer.

However, the shared desire of player and club to find a permanent move rather than a loan is proving to be an obstacle.

A deal for Nkunku to return to Leipzig is not considered close at this stage, and the forward remains open to other options.
