Marco Rose expresses desire to keep Xavi Simons

RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has expressed his desire to extend the loan of Dutchman Xavi Simons.

Arriving on loan from Paris Saint Germain last summer, Xavi Simons has had an excellent debut season in the Bundesliga.

Ahead of his side's upcoming clash with Borussia Dortmund, Marco Rose has spoken out regarding the future of Xavi, and the possibility of the 20-year-old staying with Die Roten Bullen for another campaign.

“We don't have a complete hand on it. It is important that we qualify for the Champions League. Then we want to shape the conversations in the direction that we keep the boy here for another year or two”, said Rose when speaking to Sky Germany.

The dynamic midfielder has found the back of the net seven times in the Bundesliga this campaign, assisting a teammate on ten occasions.

When speaking on Xavi as an individual, Rose highlighted that “Xavi gives the impression that he feels comfortable here, develops well and that is a very good environment for him overall. Accordingly, I am still very positive that we will also see him with us next year."

Rose also expressed the further long-term development of his side. “It is important that we not only see ourselves as a transit station, but also show ambitious goals ourselves. It must be worthwhile to move to Leipzig and also worthwhile to stay longer.”

RB currently sit in fourth place, with a huge home fixture against their top-four nemesis Borussia Dortmund taking place on Saturday.
