Mittelstädt looks ahead to Stuttgart homecoming

Ahead of Germany's second clash of Euro 2024, VfB Stuttgart's Maximilian Mittelstädt spoke out ahead of what will be a homecoming for the fullback.

Germany look to build on the momentum gained after dispatching Scotland by five goals to one as the side prepares to face Hungary in Stuttgart this evening.

“I’m really looking forward to the game tomorrow," said Mittelstädt.

“I’ve got lots of nice memories from this stadium this season and I hope I’ll have another nice memory here tomorrow.”

"My girlfriend and my entire family will be in the stadium tomorrow. Obviously it’s not easy being away from each other for several weeks at a time, but we’re still in touch a lot. I’m really looking forward to seeing them all tomorrow.”

When discussing his position within Julian Nagelsmann's side, the 27-year-old outlined that “I always have to find the right balance between defence and attack. In some situations I can interpret my role in the national team in a similar way to how I do for VfB"

"Up ahead of me are lots of players with top-class individual quality who are always capable of creating something special. The same was true at VfB this past season.”

Hungary suffered a 3-1 defeat in their opening fixture against Switzerland in Köln, however, Mittelstädt was keen to remain reserved, mentioning that “It’ll be a different game to the one against Scotland."

“In that match we showed what we’re capable of and we need to do the same against Hungary. We need to be at 100 per cent and can’t ease off at any, Hungary are compact at the back and are good at set pieces.”

"We all need to be focused, efficient, alert and make the most of our chances.”

Germany vs Hungary kicks off this evening at 18:00 (local time) at Stuttgart's MHPArena with the host nation keen to kick on from a scintillating display on opening night.
