After months of searching, it appears that Bayern Munich have finally found their new coach, with reports suggesting that it's only a matter of time before Vincent Kompany is officially unveiled.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Bayern and Germany striker Thomas Müller was asked about the reports that Kompany will take over.
"If it's true, I'm happy that we finally have a coach and can start planning. But that's not really my concern at the moment, I'm concentrating on the national team," Muller said.
At 34, Müller is no longer the sure-fire starter he once was, neither for Germany nor for Bayern. Asked about his role ahead of Euro 2024, the veteran said:
“We are never fixed in our roles, we are also in positional battles within the team. You have to accept those roles, so that you're not disappointed if you don't play. That would have a negative impact on your performance.”
Known as a cheerful character in the dressing room, Müller says it's important to find the right balance between fun and hard work.
“Everyone who knows me knows how I go through life. I don't do anything artificial, I want to have fun. I always try to remind the team that it's about work and success, but it's also about relaxation. You need that to walk the extra mile. I'm not here to entertain people. You won't get far with entertainment alone.”
