Nagelsmann gives update on Neuer's illness: "If he's healthy, he'll remain my number one"

Julian Nagelsmann says he expects Manuel Neuer to join the Germany squad on Wednesday or Thursday once he's recovered from a stomach bug.

Manuel Neuer was unable to travel to Germany's pre-Euro 2024 training camp on Sunday due to an infection.

At a press conference on Monday, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann gave an update on NEuer, confirming that the Bayern Munich veteran is his number one goalkeeper for the Euros ahead of Marc-André ter Stegen as long as he's fit and available.

“If he's healthy, he'll remain my number one. It's nothing dramatic, he's got a little stomach bug. It's something that takes energy,” Nagelsmann said.

“I don't expect him to join us before Wednesday, more likely Thursday. It's all about getting him fit. And not to spread it to anyone else who is here.”

Neuer missed Germany's two friendlies in March due to injury. He last played for Germany at the 2022 World Cup, after which he suffered a horrific leg break.
