After initially signing a short-term contract as Germany coach until after Euro 2024, Julian Nagelsmann signed a contract extension in April, committing himself to a deal until after the 2026 World Cup.

But it appears he won't be staying in the job any longer than that. Having reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship, Nagelsmann's clear plan is to return to club football after the World Cup in two years' time.

That is according to Bild's head of football, Christian Falk, who has told CaughtOffside that the 36-year-old plans to step down after the World Cup, regardless of how Germany fare at the tournament.

A move to an English Premier League club could be on the cards for Nagelsmann, but there are no concrete indications as to where he might go.

Nagelsmann coached Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich before taking over as Germany boss in September 2023, replacing Hansi Flick.
