Lewandowski's agent: The Ballon d'Or doesn't belong to Messi

Robert Lewandowski's agent, Pini Zahavi, has questioned the decision to award Lionel Messi the 2021 Ballon d'Or, claiming his client would have been a more deserved winner.
Lionel Messi lifted his seventh Ballon d'Or award on Monday, seeing off competition from Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho, who came in second and third, respectively.

But according to Lewandowski's agent, Pini Zahavi, the Bayern München star would have been a more worthy winner.

"Huge congratulations to Messi, an impressive player and an eternal football legend," Zahavi said in an interview with TZ and added:

"But the Ballon d'Or doesn't belong to him. Not this time. The golden ball belongs to Robert Lewandowski. Robert was not robbed, but he is the man, who deserves it.

"No wonder hundreds of millions of fans found the final result of this prestigious football event hard to believe. Monday night should have ended with Robert Lewandowski celebrating his first Ballon d'Or."

Lewandowski was seen as the top favorite to win the Ballon d'Or last year, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
