Out-of-favor Leverkusen midfielder linked with move to Italy

Nadiem Amiri (25) is rumored to be in talks about a move to Genoa.
Nadiem Amiri has found game time to be scarce this season. The Leverkusen midfielder, who has 3 German national team caps to his name, has only featured 3 times in the starting lineup for coach Gerardo Seoane in the league.

Various sources now claim that CFC Genoa of the Serie A could be looking to bring Amiri to Italy during the winter transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano, Amiri is expected to arrive in Italy for his medical today. The move would offer Amiri much needed game time, which he is unlikely to get in the Bundesliga due to the phenomenal form of Florian Wirtz.

While such a move is heavily rumored to be in the works, a lot of factors could affect the outcome of this deal. Amiri has a contract till 2024, which means Genoa will have to table an offer that suits Bayer. Bayer must also have a backup option ready if they are willing to let Amiri go. Should Wirtz be unavailable, Amiri is the most like-for-like attacking midfielder in the Bayer ranks. Do the Leverkusen bosses have a new arrival in mind? Could this mean a chance for the next Leverkusen wonder-boy Zidan Sertdemir (16) to get his chance in the first team? Whether or not Rolfes and Co. would want changes to a set system in the middle of the season remains to be seen.
