Mainz boss on a possible comeback for Malli: 'Completely unrealistic'

VfL Wolfsburg's Yunus Malli, who could be looking for a new club in January, is unlikely to return to Mainz, says Rouven Schröder.

Yunus Malli is said to be set to leave VfL Wolfsburg in January as the Turkish international is looking for more first team action.

The offensive midfielder joined Wolfsburg from Mainz for €12,5 million in January 2017, but a return to his former club seems highly unlikely. He's simply too expensive, says Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder.

"Yunus Malli is an interesting player and a very good character," Schröder told Bild and added:

"He would probably be a reinforcement for almost every Bundesliga club. Such a transfer would be light-years away from out budget, so it's completely unrealistic."

The 26-year-old, who earns €4,5 million a year in Wolfsburg, has been linked with a move to Turkey. He has made 10 appearances for 'Die Wölfe' this season.
