Have FC St. Pauli pulled off a coup? According to Bild, the 2. Bundesliga side have signed Eintracht Frankfurt icon Alex Meier.

Meier, 35, hasn't had a club since he was released by Eintracht Frankfurt last summer after spending 14 seasons at the club.

In total, the striker made 379 appearances for Frankfurt with 137 goals to his name and acquired legendary status among the fans who nicknamed him 'Fußballgott' - football God.

Reportedly, Hannover 96 also wanted Meier, but he wanted to return to Hamburg to rejoin St. Pauli - the club he played for between 2001 and 2003.

We wrote a portrait of Meier in December 2017 which you can read here.
