"I'm just proud of the boys, I really have to say that," Salihamidzic was quoted as saying by Sky Germany after Bayern clinched the Bundesliga title with a 2-1 win over FC Köln.

"It's emotional for me today and not an easy situation. Nevertheless, I wish everybody good luck and success.

"Of course I would have liked to continue. This team is really good. Good characters, good young players and a good mix."

Although he would have liked to carry on, the 46-year-old insisted he accepts the decision.

"Of course. FC Bayern is above everything else and I've had really good talks with Uli [Hoeness] and Herbert [Hainer]. I want to remain a friend of FC Bayern.

"I am always emotional when it comes to FC Bayern, I have had many difficult situations, but also many beautiful ones. That's why I want to thank you for the last six years."
