Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Shinji Kagawa has left the club to join Turkish side Besiktas on loan for the rest of the season.
The offensive midfielder turned down an offer from Hannover 96 to complete a move to Istanbul.
"Shinji is not only an outstanding footballer, but also a great friend of our club. We didn't want to deny him this request," BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said, as quoted by the club.
Kagawa, 29, has been limited to just four appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season.
