Bayern bosses hint at January move for Palhinha after failed deadline day transfer

Bayern Munich bosses Jam-Christian Dreesen and Thoms Tuchel have hinted at a January move for Fulham's Joao Palhinha after the German champions' deadline day swoop for the 28-year-old fell through.

Bayern Munich came close to signing Joao Palhinha on deadline day, but the move ultimately fell through, reportedly because Fulham couldn't find a replacement for the Portuguese holding midfielder in time before the transfer window closed.

However, it appears that the 28-year-old might move to Bayern in January when the transfer window reopens.

"Palhinha was very sad yesterday (Friday). He would have liked to join. But as we say, you usually see each other twice in life," Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said ahead of Saturday's 2-1 win over Gladbach.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel revealed that he's planning to talk to Palhinha about what happened on deadline day.

"I was sad because I know what he would have brought to our team. He was sad and disappointed. We'll talk again about what happened. Everyone did what they had to do, but in the end it was too late," said Tuchel, who admitted his squad looks a little "thin" defensively after Bayern failed to sign Palhinha and a replacement for Benjamin Pavard on deadline day.

"The team is thinner than before. We'll see what we can do with it and do our best. It's a good squad, but it's a bit lacking in some positions," he said.
