Sport Bild Report: Bremen set to hire Niemeyer for front office position

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that SV Werder Bremen have found their front office replacement for the promoted Clemens Fritz.
With SV Werder Bremen licensing head Clemens Fritz set to take over for departing managing director Frank Baumann at the end of the season, Bremen have apparently found a replacement for Fritz's vacated position. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid reports that the Hanseatic City State side will turn to former club professional Peter Niemeyer; currently a front office executive at 3. Liga promotion candidates SV Preußen Münster.

Niemeyer represented Bremen in the top flight as a defensive midfielder/center back for four seasons between 2006 and 2010. He later moved onto Hertha BSC before ultimately ending his professional career with SV Darmstadt 98. Münster President Bernward Maasjost recently confirmed to the German tabloid that there had been some interest in Niemeyer and acknowledged that the 40-year-old had an affinity for Werder.

Sport Bild claims that Niemeyer maintains a close personal relationship with his former teammate Fritz, who himself played for Bremen between 2006 and 2017. Niemeyer's post-playing career began with a coaching at his old Dutch youth academy club FC Twente. He moved to the Münster front office in the summer of 2020. The Prussian Eagles were promoted back to the German third division last year and are currently third in the 3. Liga table.
