Hitzfeld: Dortmund waited too long before proclaiming their goal to win the title

Ottmar Hitzfeld feels Borussia Dortmund should have proclaimed their goal to win the Bundesliga at a much earlier point.

The Dortmund bosses waited until March to say that they consider themselves title contenders along with Bayern München.

But Ottmar Hitzfeld, who has coached both clubs in the past, believes they should have done so much sooner.

"They have a competitive, hungry squad and the chance of winning the title which they have finally proclaimed as a clear target," Hitzfeld said in an interview with Kicker and added:

"They waited to long to do so. BVB should have signaled this at an earlier point - it's now or never. Because the prospect of leaving Bayern behind hasn't been this big since 2012."

Borussia Dortmund are two points clear of Bayern München with seven games left to play. The two title rivals meet at Allianz Arena this Saturday.
