Christian Gentner to leave Stuttgart on a free transfer

Christian Gentner will leave Stuttgart on a free transfer.
VfB Stuttgart have announced that the club will not be extending Christian Gentner's contract which runs out at the end of the month.

That means the the 33-year-old Stuttgart captain will say goodbye to the club where he has spent the most of his career, making 373 appearances with 50 goals and 45 assists to his name.

"Christian is VfB through and through. He came through the youth ranks here and has emerged as one of the defining figures of the past years. 'Gente' is not only an excellent player, but has also always totally identified with the VfB and represented the club in an exemplary way," said VfB Stuttgart sporting director Thomas Hitzlsperger, as quoted by the club.

"We can very well imagine him to get involved in the work at VfB after his active career and have presented various possibilities to him in this context. Christian knows that he's always welcome at VfB. And of course, we will say goodbye to him during a home in at the Mercedes-Benz Arena," he added.

Gentner scored once and made five assists in 32 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign.
