Funkel expects Kaan Ayhan to stay at Fortuna Düsseldorf

Kaan Ayhan is now expected to stay at Fortuna Düsseldorf, says head coach Friedhelm Funkel.

      Fortuna Düsseldorf coach Friedhelm Funkel says it currently looks like Kaan Ayhan will stay at the club.

      Ayhan had a release clause of €4 million, which expired on May 31, and the centre-back was linked with a move away from Fortuna Düsseldorf prior to that. But now, he's expected to stay.

      "It really looks like it. We would be very happy to keep him. I'm planning with him," Funkel told Bild.

      Ayhan's contract runs until 2021.
