Lothar Matthäus feels Leroy Sané would be wise to sign Leroy Sané rather than Ousmane Dembélé.

The former German international points out that Dembélé was heavily criticized by Bayern president Uli Hoeness when he went on strike to force through a move from Borussia Dortmund to FC Barcelona in 2017.

Therefore, Matthäus argues, Bayern would make themselves 'unreliable' by bringing Dembélé to Allianz Arena now.

"[Sané] has the best character for me. When I think of the scandals that Dembélé has caused both in Dortmund and Barcelona, I don't believe the player would change his behavior at FC Bayern," he told Bild.

Furthermore, Matthäus believes it's a big advantage that Sané already knows plenty of Bayern players from the German national team.

"Sané already knows many Bayern players from the national team and has played well with them. If I had the choice between a German and a French international, I would take the German one if I were FC Bayern," he said.
