Maximilian Eggestein says he's willing to play at right-back in order for Werder Bremen to cope with the large number of injuries in their squad.

When Ömer Toprak was substituted with an injury in Saturday's 2-3 defeat to Hoffenheim, Theodor Gebre Selassie took his place in central defence while 'Maxi' Eggestein was moved from midfield to right-back.

And speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the central midfielder says he's willing to fill in at right-back again if needed.

"The team is the most important thing. We are currently lacking in numbers. Everyone knows that I prefer to play in midfield, but that isn't possible at the moment. I think I can play well there," 'Maxi' Eggestein said at a press conference, according to the club.

"Theo [Gebre Selassie] has played in this position for a long time, so it's a good idea to ask him for some tips and to incorporate them into my game. For example he gives advice about distances, such as how far I should be from the centre back," Eggestein said.

Werder currently have to manage without Philipp Bargfrede, Ludwig Augustinsson, Milos Veljkovic, Sebastian Langkamo, Ömer Toprak, Fin Bartels, Benjamin Goller and Milot Rashica due to injuries.
