Xaver Schlager: 'It's disgusting to play against us'

Xaver Schlager has to cover a lot of ground under Oliver Glasner - and that's not a problem for him.

Oliver Glasner has been off to a good start in the German Bundesliga, winning his first two games as VfL Wolfsburg coach with a 3-4-3 system that relies on high pressure and a lot of movement.

Xaver Schlager, who has joined Wolfsburg from Red Bull Salzburg this summer, enjoys playing in the engine room under Glasner and believes 'Die Wölfe' can cause their opponents all sorts of trouble - as long as they stick to the plan.

"Everyone knows that we have to do our job: run, run," Schlager said in an interview with Kicker and added:

"If we are courageous and run a lot, we can cause other teams a lot of problems. Because it's just disgusting to play against us.

"It's my job to run. If I didn't want to run, this wouldn't be the right sport for me. In that case, I could just play chess instead, so I wouldn't have to exert myself so much," Schlager said.

In their next game, Wolfsburg will be up against newly-promoted SC Paderborn on Saturday.
