When Philipp Lahm retired in 2017, Bayern abandoned their team council which also included Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben at the time.

However, Bayern München coach Niko Kovac has now felt the need to establish a new team council consisting of six players.

"I have reintroduced the team council which I want to represent the whole team. In addition to the three team captains, [Manuel] Neuer, [Thomas] Müller and [Robert] Lewandowski, the representatives are Thiago [Alcantara], [David] Alaba and [Joshua] Kimmich," Kovac said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:

"Thiago is one of our absolute leaders, both on and off the pitch. David Alaba has been with us for a long time and has worked his way up. Joshua Kimmich represents the younger generation."

Niko Kovac was appointed Bayern coach last summer and won the double in his first season at the club.
