Mark Uth believes he will be able to rediscover his top form under new Schalke 04 coach David Wagner after a disappointing 2018/19 campaign that saw Huub Stevens guide the club to a 14th-place finish after Domenico Tedesco lost his job in March.

Uth joined Schalke from Hoffenheim last year and had a difficult first season at Veltins-Arena, scoring just four goals in 29 appearances. But he's convinced that things will be better with Wagner at the helm.

Asked if he can benefit from Schalke's new playing style, Uth told Sport Bild:

"Yes, 100 percent. Last season, we tried to play the ball all the way forward immediately after winning it. David Wagner wants us to play football. That suits me. I'm not a classic striker that you play long balls to."

"I want to prove my critics wrong. They are right about one thing, though. What I showed last season was underwhelming. The past season was exceptionally bad for everyone here. I'm sure this one will be better, because it's difficult to do worse than last year.

"I'm sure I can prove that I still have the qualities I showed week after week at Hoffenheim," Uth underlined.

The 28-year-old recently returned from an injury spell and has made two appearances for 'The Royal Blues' so far this season.
