Philippe Coutinho scored a hat-trick and made two assists as Bayern München stunned Werder Bremen with a 6-1 win at Allianz Arena.

It was the guests who broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Milot Rashica smashed the ball past Manuel Neuer after getting the better of Jerome Boateng on the counter.

But Bayern responded towards the end of the first half when Coutinho equalised before Robert Lewandowski made it 2-1 shortly before the break.

Coutinho scored for the second time after 63 minutes as he cheekily chipped the ball over Jiri Pavlenka in the Werder net.

Lewandowski added to the lead with his second goal after 72 minutes before subsitute Thomas Müller made it 5-1 a moment later after he was cleverly set up by Coutinho.

Then, with 78 minutes on the clock, Coutinho got his hat-trick, beautifully curling the ball into the back of the net to make it 6-1.

Elsewhere, Dortmund took a 4-0 win over Mainz, FC Köln stunned Bayer Leverkusen with a 2-0 victory, Hertha BSC beat Freiburg 1-0 while Paderborn and Union Berlin drew 1-1.

With their win today, Bayern climb to fourth place in the Bundesliga table - two points behind third-placed Borussia Dortmund.
