Lothar Matthäus 'very surprised' that Bayern didn't beat Leipzig

Lothar Matthäus admits he was quite surprised that Bayern München didn't manage to beat RB Leipzig on Sunday.
Lothar Matthäus clearly expected Bayern München to come out on top of Sunday's top-of-the-table clash with RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena, so he was 'very surprised' to see the two teams share the spoils in a 0-0 draw.

"I was very surprised that Bayern didn't continue their momentum from the past weeks, especially because they usually always take advantage of chances like this. They could almost have knocked Dortmund out of the title race and extended their lead to four points over Leipzig," Matthäus wrote in a column for Sky.

However, looking at how the game developed, the former German international feels Bayern can't be too unhappy about the result.

"The result was even a little flattering for the German champions, because RB created the biggest chances. Hansi Flick's team didn't play with the same joy and compactness as we have recently seen from them. Leipzig, on the other hand, showed a great reaction to their recent weeks. They did well to survive the first half and kept the title race exciting with courage, skill and good tactics," Matthäus stated.

Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga, one point clear of RB Leipzig.
