Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Völler has made it clear he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

The former German international, who turns 60 years old on Monday, tells Sport Bild that he wants to continue in the job as Leverkusen's managing director of sport until at least 2022, at which point his current contract expires.

"I have cast away the idea of stepping down a little earlier that I had last year. I will definitely continue until 2022. We'll have to see after that," Völler said and added that he will be speaking to the board about his future in due course.

Völler played for Leverkusen from 1994 until 1996, when he retired as an active player. He made 73 appearances for 'Die Werkself', scoring 30 goals.
