Timo Werner bagged a hat-trick for RB Leipzig as 'Die Roten Bullen' thrashed Mainz 5-0 away from home on Sunday.

It was Werner, who broke the deadlock for the visitors after 11 minutes, when he poked the ball past Florian Müller in the Mainz goal after Konrad Laimer sent in a low cross.

In his 250th appearance for 'Die Roten Bullen', Yussuf Poulsen added to the score midway through the first half, heading home a cross from Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer then got on the scoresheet himself, curling the ball into the far top corner with 36 minutes on the clock.

Shortly into the second half, Timo Werner made it 4-0, when he finished off an excellent team move.

RB Leipzig refused to take their foot off the pedal and added another one 15 minutes before the final whistle, when Timo Werner secured his hat-trick after he was played in behind the Mainz defence, netting for 24th time in the league this season.

The result means that RB Leipzig climb to third in the table while Mainz are 15th, four points above the drop zone before relegation rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf lock horns with FC Köln later on Sunday.
