Kevin Kampl on Timo Werner's move to Chelsea: 'He deserves to take the next step'

Timo Werner 'deserves to take the next step in his career,' says Kevin Kampl.
Kevin Kampl says RB Leipzig teammate Timo Werner 'deserves' his move to Chelsea, although he is sad to see him go.

"Of course it's a pity for us that Timo is leaving. He has scored extremely many goals and is an important player for us," Kampl told Sport1 when asked about Werner's impending switch to London, which was confirmed earlier this week.

"We get along well, so I'm very happy for him. He deserves to take the next step in his career. But I think it's a shame that he won't be in the dressing room in the future, because he's a funny guy with whom you can laugh a lot. I will miss that," he added.

According to reports, Kampl is close to extending his contract with RB Leipzig, but the midfielder insists his future hasn't been sorted out yet.

"There is nothing new to report at the moment. I've often stressed how much I feel at home in Leipzig. The philosophy of RB Leipzig is sustainable and consistent. It's also important to me that my family feels comfortable. I have two small children, and they play a big role in my decision. I feel in top form after coming back from an injury, and we will see what the future brings," he said.
