Timo Werner has opened up on his decision to make the switch to Chelsea from RB Leipzig this summer.

The German international was linked with a number of other clubs as well, including Liverpool, Manchester United and Atlético Madrid, but says Chelsea made a bigger effort to sign him than any other club.

"Not only did Chelsea make an exciting offer, but they gave me the best feeling and made a huge effort to get me," the German international told Kicker and added:

"They called me a lot and tried really hard to convince me to come to Chelsea. In every conversation, I felt that they really wanted me, and I had the feeling that this was the right step. Since I decided to do this a few weeks ago, I haven't regretted it at all."

Werner feels he leaves at the top after an outstanding season that has seen him rack up 34 goals and 13 assists in 45 games.

"For me, it just felt right to make the switch now. You always say that you should leave when things are at their best. Maybe that's quite fitting in this case. I've scored more goals and made more assists than ever before, and, at times, we have played better football as a team than ever before. This season is hard to top," Werner said and added:

"It was time to seize the momentum and go to one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to become a figure that people trust and rely on, just like I've been in Leipzig."
