Bayern München midfielder Sebastian Rudy has been heavily linked with a move to RB Leipzig this month.

However, according to former German international Lothar Matthäus, Bayern should not let the 28-year-old go as he offers valuable depth at the defensive midfield position.

"In my opinion, it would be a big mistake to let Rudy go. Apart from Javi Martinez, there is only one real number six in Bayern's squad - and that is Sebastian Rudy," Matthäus writes in his column for Sky and continues:

"If Martinez should fall out or need a break, Bayern wouldn't have an equivalent replacement at the position."

"If the opponent are at the level of Real Madrid or Barcelona, I would consider it a risk to play without a real number six."

Bayern München and RB Leipzig are currently said to be in negotiations for Rudy who reportedly went to Leipzig last Friday to take a look at the training facilities.
