Manuel Akanji rubbishes reports Dortmund wanted to sell him in January

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji has lashed out at the media, claiming that many transfer stories are completely made up.
Manuel Akanji has dismissed claims that he was looking to leave Borussia Dortmund in January.

In general, Akanji claims, many of the transfer stories reported in the media have no basis in reality.

"It's hardly possible not to notice any of the many transfer rumors. Sometimes I even come across reports about myself, and I can tell you that a lot of it is just made up. Before I joined BVB, I was linked with practically every Bundesliga club. And in most cases, there was neither any contact nor an agreement," Akanji wrote in a column for Swiss media outlet Watson and added:

"Last winter, for example, it was written that Dortmund had given me permission to leave and wanted to sell me. I was asked about this in an interview, and then I had to admit that the journalists knew more than I did if that was the case. If there had been anything to it, the club would of course have talked to me or my agent first. So you shouldn't believe all you read."

Akanji, 25, joined Dortmund from Basel in January 2018.
